“The Qingdao Photowalk” is a photography club first, and a socializing club next. The club was founded to bring together anyone who is interested in exchanging their knowledge and experience in photography and Qingdao’s culture and history. The club activities are held twice a month (unless mentioned otherwise) in different places around Qingdao.
At the end of the “Photowalk Day,” participants meet up at that particular day’s venue to reflect on their day and socialize.
Participants pay a fee that comprises of a treat, insurance, and club income.
The club celebrates the end of an activity by visiting a local small business (not limited to) a coffee shop or a restaurant. At that venue, the members present their reflections on a photo or may have a creative meeting followed by socializing with other participants. As a gesture, the club shall contact the small business and decide on what kind of discounted welcome meal or drinks could be offered.
Participants may encounter misfortune during club activities. Although the club cannot be held responsible for any incidents that may produce any medical costs. The app-offered insurance package makes sure that participants do not have to worry about costs arising from unforeseeable incidents.
The Mission Cards’ back page should contain the “dos and don’ts” on a Photowalk.
The Qingdao Photowalk Club also organizes workshops to help photography students on their learning journey.
At some point, the club should contribute to the community it serves and that is through showcasing the club members’ artwork in ways of “art exhibitions” or “yearly photobooks” This part should contribute to cover the costs that occur when printing photos, books, postcards, puzzles, etc. used for the purpose of the club.
Participants must be over 18. (except for the Children’s Day Photowalk) New members must submit their date of birth to also have the “Birthday Person” celebration during the activities. The club shall also send participants whose birthday comes a “Happy Birthday Surprise Gift”
The go-to app we will be using to invite participants is “Cumen.” We have tried it and it seems to be the right app for us to use.
The activity language is not limited to Chinese or English. Participants are encouraged to speak any language they feel like using to communicate.
The Typical Photowalk Day - The activity starts at a designated time and may change depending on the type of photography the challenges of that day are set to. - Participants form a circle and listen to “the day’s briefing” and “safety awareness guidelines” - Participants then take turns and introduce themselves. - Participants receive their “Mission Cards” * and go through that day’s challenge one at a time and raise any questions they may have. Mission Cards are there to challenge participants to practice capturing photos and learn more about what their next skill(s) to improve will be. A lot of the “challenges” are repetitive throughout the year in order to allow participants to make multiple attempts to track their progress. - The group then proceeds through the city streets or venues to capture the photos they think fit the challenges. There are no set lunchtime, bathroom breaks, and/or coffee breaks. Everyone is free to take a break have lunch or a snack at their will or move at their own pace. They can always contact the group to see where they are to catch up with. Participants may leave or arrive at any time through a Photowalk day. However, They are required to respect the etiquette of the club and not disrupt the dynamics of that moment.
